We are excited to invite you to our next tasting event – an exploration of red wines from the Rioja region in Spain! On Thursday, May 9 at 6 p.m., our own Travis Doyle will pour five incredible wines from this famed region.
Rioja is arguably the most important wine region in Spain. Located in the north of the country, Rioja is known for its barrel aged Tempranillos and Garnachas. Wines from this region have specific aging guidelines and flavor profiles vary depending on how long the wine is aged. This tasting features several ‘Reserva’ wines that are aged at least one year in oak and released no sooner than three years after harvest. We will also pour a young ‘Cosecha’ wine, released into the market within a year of harvest. But to really offer a glimpse in the difference that aging can make, this event includes a rare Rioja wine from 1955!
TASTING LINEUP
Manzanos Rioja 1955
A glimpse into the past with notes of dried fig, ripe red berries, leather, and delicate hints of vanilla and tobacco. A rare gem.
Bodegas Muga Reserva 2020
Structured and linear with notes of graphite, cherry, plum, milk chocolate, and black truffle.
López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva 2011
A traditional style of Rioja with notes of iron, earth, and savory tobacco leaves coupled with plum, spice, and orange zest.
Cuentaviñas Alomado Cosecha 2020
A very lively, vibrant Rioja that delivers a bit of white pepper and fresh herbs to the aromas of racy strawberries and grapefruit. Juicy, agile, and bright on the palate with a medium body. Silky and quite drinkable.

The nose is defined by deep ripe black fruit with hints of black spices, balsamic and mineral aromas. Full-bodied, juicy tannins and endless spicy finish. Powerful, round, and solid.
