Jean Foillard Wines

For our next tasting event, we are thrilled to present a selection of wines from esteemed French producer Jean Foillard! Join us on Wednesday, May 15 at 6 p.m. as our General Manager Travis Doyle leads us through five fantastic red wines from this living legend.

Jean Foillard’s estate is located near the town of Villié-Morgon, near Lyon, France. Here he grows approximately 14 hectares of Gamay grapes and produces just 2,500 cases of his wines annually. Since he took over the domaine in 1980, Foillard has been a pioneer of natural winemaking in the region. He and three other winemakers called for a return to the old practices of viticulture and vinification: starting with old vines, never using synthetic herbicides or pesticides, harvesting late, rigorously sorting to remove all but the healthiest grapes, adding minimal doses of sulfur dioxide or none at all, and refusing both chaptalization and filtration. His methodology allows the wines to express themselves naturally and with nuance.

This collection of Jean Foillard wines are deep, structured, and complex, with a velvety lushness that makes them irresistible when young despite their aging potential.

TASTING LINEUP:

Beaujolais Villages 2022
Evoking pomegranate, rhubarb, and black tea, this is a beautiful initiation to Jean’s house style, distinguished by a mesmerizing tension between depth, density, silkiness, and elegance.

Fleurie 2022
Fresh hay on the nose, wet wheat field and moss. Light and living, charged with herbs, cranberry, and strawberry.

Morgon ‘Cuvée Corcelette’ 2022
A compelling and complex bouquet, with raspberry and wild strawberry, rose petal and light chalky scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, finely chiseled and lending tension.

Morgon ‘Côte du Puy’ 2022
Serious minerality, with earthy stone and plum notes. Dusty tannins and a long evolution in the glass.

Morgon ‘Côte du Puy’ 2015
Gorgeous aromas of stems and spices with crushed berries and beautiful florals. Coffee beans and charcoal, too. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and lovely caressing fruit. Very long and delicious.
