A single-vineyard bottling of essentially the same blend and made in the same fashion as the Valpolicella, Ca’ del Merlo is a bit richer, with notes of cherry, spice, tobacco leaf, and dried dates. A bit darker toned, tart, and chewy than the Valpolicella, this begs for a nice, meaty stew.
