We are excited to announce our next tasting event – a sampling of wines from the Piedmont region in Italy! Our own Travis Doyle will be pouring these five fantastic red wines on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. Piedmont is one of the very finest wine regions in the world and is known for its high-quality red wines. At this event we will feature wines from three different grapes and three distinct areas within Piedmont.
We start with a Dolcetto wine from Il Palazzotto in Alba region. Il Palazzotto is a small-scale winery that has been producing wine for four generations. There are two Barbera wines, which is one of Piedmont’s most popular grapes. While both are from the Alba region, these two wines highlight very different expressions of the grape. One Barbera is from Catina Tibaldi, a winery run by a two young sister winemakers, and the other from the historic Vietti winery. Finally, we’ll pour two Nebbiolo wines, one from Barbaresco and one from Barolo. The different soil types and aging lengths in Barbaresco and Barolo make for distinct presentations of the famed Nebbiolo grape.
Piedmont is located in northwestern Italy and its name literally translates to “foot of the mountain” (pied = foot; mont = mountain) and sits at the base of the Alps. The cooling effects from the mountain counterbalance the warm Mediterranean climate and create ideal grape growing conditions.
