Wine Tasting – G.D. Vajra

We are thrilled to announce our next tasting event, an exploration of incredible wines from Italian producer G.D. Vajra! Join us on Tuesday, February 25 at 6 p.m. when Michael Molinegro, wine expert with Barrique distribution company, leads us through five fantastic wines from this family-run winery in Piedmont.

The Vajra family has farmed Bricco delle Viole, the highest cru in Comune di Barolo, since the 1880s. In 1968, at the age of fifteen, Aldo Vajra spent the summer at his grandparents farm in Barolo. Those months spent with the vines sparked his dream of reviving his family legacy of winemaking. Over the next several years, Also took over the estate, acquired organic certification, propagated new varietals, and pioneered the renaissance of Freisa (a forgotten local grape).

Today, Aldo runs the winery alongside his wife Milena and their three children. The family has 40 hectares under vine and produces an impressive lineup of wines ranging from light sparkling rosé wines to age-worthy Barolos.

TASTING LINEUP

G.D. Vajra N.S. Della Neve Sparkling Rosé NV
Aromatic intensity and finesse summarize the personality of Our Lady of the Snows. It opens with a rich and vibrant nose. Light tannins and notes of fresh strawberry, small red fruits, candied grapefruit peel, and shortbread pastry.

G.D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo 2022
On the nose intense aromas with notes of raspberry, cherry and mountain berries, rose petals, violets, small fresh fruits, lavender and mint. Elegant on the palate, with crunchy red fruits, zest orange, sweet spices with earthy and mineral nuances.

G.D. Vajra Barbera d’Alba 2023
Barbera d’Alba 2023 has a beautiful color bright and violet shades. The nose is pure freshness: a riot of red fruits, fresh roses and plums that re-explode every time you bring the glass to your nose. On the palate a mix of delicious sensations that are both crunchy and juicy. The notes of red, sweet and fresh fruits, spices, blackberries and blueberries and currants, are the distinctive features of the 2023 vintage.

G.D. Vajra Kye Langhe Freisa 2021
The Langhe Freisa Kyè has a rich and edgy nose elaborate, with rose petals, wild strawberries, cherries in alcohol and nuances of spices. Fine tannins are wrapped in layers of floral elements, fresh blueberries, violet and rose hips, white pepper and cloves, with a combination bewitching with depth and energy.

G.D. Vajra Barolo Bricco Delle Viole 2020
The Bricco delle Viole 2020 is a wine of great finesse. On the nose it presents strong aromas of violet, rose fanée, cherries in alcohol and orange red. On the palate it is elegant, with vibrant acidity and well-integrated tannins. With a very persistent finish, with light mineral notes, hints of berries and cherries.
