Wine Tasting – Domaine Huet

You are invited to come and experience the exceptional wines from the renowned estate Domaine Huet! Join us on Wednesday, September 13 at 6 p.m. when Jeff Moore, Advanced Sommelier and owner of Amphora Wine Company, will guide us through diverse expressions of Chenin Blanc from the Vouvray region.

Domaine Huet, founded in 1928 by Victor Huet and his son Gaston, now has thirty hectares of Chenin planted on three plots in the Loire Valley. The estate was one of the early adopters of biodynamic cultivation in French vineyards. This cultivation method, which respects the soil, the plant, and the environment, allows them to develop the character of their wines and to preserve the authenticity of the terroirs. Over the years, Domaine Huet has become one of the most respected estates in the Vouvray region, consistently producing stunning wines in a remarkable range that spans sparkling, dry, semi-dry, and breathtaking dessert styles.

The Vouvray region produces only Chenin Blanc. During this tasting, we will experience five distinct presentations of the grape. All the wines come from Domaine Huet’s Le Haut-Lieu vineyard – the very first one purchased by Victor back in 1928.

TASTING LINEUP:

2017 Domaine Huet Vouvray Pétillant
Sparkling Chenin Blanc! This wine is complex and layered with aromas of ripe stone fruit, sweet citrus, honeysuckle, and pollen. The palate is flavorful and broad textured, featuring fine and persistent bubbles around a core of fruit and minerality.

2022 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec ‘Le Haut-Lieu’
Classic, with beautiful acidity showing green apple and bright lime finish. Sec means dry and is the driest expression of the vineyard site.

2022 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi Sec ‘Le Haut-Lieu’
Demi Sec means off dry. This wine starts to reveal a whisper of sweetness behind the bright acidity and the two blend together beautifully. Apple and persimmon, ripe rich fruit, and crushed stone.

2003 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux ‘Le Haut-Lieu’
A fresh, elegant wine, with a lightness of touch that belies the moelleux (sweet) label. This is full of white fruits and fresh jelly flavors. Subtle, seductive, honeyed layers and acidity.

2020 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux 1er Trie ‘Le Haut-Lieu’
A top-tier example of the sweeter style wines. Complex layers of fig, melon, rocky minerality and a touch of saline acidity. Exceptional aging potential, but delightful to drink now.
