Portelli Cerasulo di Vittoria (2019)

Calabrese (a local synonym for Nero d’Avola) and Frappato were meant for each other. In southern Sicily’s Cerasuolo di Vittoria appellation, they combine to create a vino rosso scented of lavender blossoms and scorched earth, allying the strength and dark, almost rustic side of Calabrese with Frappato’s gentle, pillowy texture and bright floral perfume. The lively acidity and savory pungency make this red an ideal match for cooked tomatoes in all their iterations.
